LEON BROADNAX JR. “HEAVY”

Leon is a native of Montgomery, Alabama and a proud graduate of the historic Booker T. Washington High School. Although surrounded by family members in radio and entertainment, Leon chose sports... playing football and basketball in high school and college. Recognizing the need for change in our society, he joined the United States Marine Corps, which turned out to be one of the most important decisions of his life. The military experience which he gained in the U.S.M.C. served him well later in life when he was afforded the privilege of working with disabled veterans. A very vital part of the therapy for the veterans that Leon cared for was the infusion of music into their daily regimen, and it was this realization that persuaded him to understand that music is not merely the "universal language", it is nectar for the soul. The passion for serving as caregiver and counselor for veterans influenced him to exercise his special gift in a broader way, so he accepted an invitation to join the TLBN family to share the therapy worldwide. True to form, Leon swiftly carved out his own niche in the entertainment industry by creating a Friday night habit called Heavy and the Fat Cats, an irreverent mix of R&B, Gospel, Blues and News, which airs from 7 until 1Opm central time. Heavy's guests range from athletes to entrepreneurs to recording artists to authors, politicians, and community activists  And his sports acumen is not lost as he regularly co-hosts The Sports Bar with Rennie Jones a weekly feature on TLBN's Tan Town Coffee Club.
